About Can

​Can Zhang graduated from China Foreign Affairs University majoring in English and International Studies. She was awarded National Scholarship and served as the founder and chief director of CFAU English Public Speaking Club during her undergraduate stage. Her passion for public speaking makes her the National Grand Finalist and First Prize Winner of the 2017 China Daily “21st Century” Cup National English Speaking Competition. In 2018, she was exchanged to Barnard College of Columbia University by China Scholarship Council for one semester. Her undergraduate thesis titled “China’s Major Power Responsibility in the 21st Century: Illustrated by the Case of China-Africa Relations” received the honor of Excellent Undergraduate Thesis.

Can now works as an intern in the Carnegie-Tsinghua Young Ambassador Program under the track of Media Relations. In 2017, Can went to Sochi, Russia as the Chinese representative for the 19th World Youth Forum. In the following year she worked as a trainee editor and interpreter for Xinhua News Agency and China Xinhua News Network (CNC) for television news editing as well as video making for the official Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games. She also interned at the Trade Development Bureau of Ministry of Commerce PRC for organizing and operating logistics for several bi-lateral and multi-lateral events.

Can’s academic interest mainly focuses on China-Africa relations and African studies, China’s foreign aid policy as well as BRI and its influence.
