NexGen Global Forum Welcomes: Sam Waldo, the Co-founder and CEO of Mantra Inc.
The Speaker:
Sam Waldo is the co-founder and CEO of Mantra Inc. While teaching in a small village in rural China from 2010-2012, Sam and his co-founder Andrew discovered that many of their students didn’t have the prescription eyeglasses they needed to see clearly and succeed in school. There are over 220 million students in rural China, and over 30 million of these struggle with uncorrected vision problems. They started Mantra as a fun way to get more people involved, spread awareness, and bring their solution to more students in need. That’s why, when people buy a pair of handmade Mantra frames, they deliver a pair of prescription eyeglasses to a needy student in rural Yunnan. Sam Waldo received his BA from Columbia University.
Beyond China: Refugees, Reaction and Post-Conflict Resolution in Europe and Latin America
The migrant refugee crisis is a human tragedy that has upended the political dynamics of Europe. This student forum will explore this situation based on the experiences and research of our current graduate students, and contrast this ongoing struggle with post-conflict reconciliation in Colombia.
Come support your friends and learn something new:
- Second year CPFP student Alejandro Benedito will share his research on how European identity is hardening in response to the influx of migrants;
- TSDM student Rick Packer will present on the refugee crisis in Greece, the crossroads of the Middle East and Europe;
- And first year CPFP student Angela Cotte will share her experiences in sports diplomacy working with children impacted by the Colombian conflict.
A small reception will follow the event. Please RSVP here.
