About Monet Stokes
Monet Stokes graduated with a bachelor’s degree in neuroscience from the University of Michigan in 2013. While attending university, she participated in activities focused on research, intercultural communication, international humanitarian crises, and the integration of international students into the university community. After graduating, she moved to South Korea, where she began to study Korean, learn about the complex political situations in Asia, and develop a specific interest in analyzing the underlying causes of conflict.
After returning to the United States, she worked with USAID for two years, where she explored the mechanisms used to provide aid in emergency situations in the international community. Recognizing the importance of further education to increase her personal impact, Monet decided to pursue a master’s degree with a portion of her studies taking place in Asia through the Tsinghua-SAIS Dual Degree Program. At SAIS and Tsinghua, she is pursuing concentrations in Korean studies, Chinese politics, and international economics. Her research interests include conflict in Asia, international alliances, and North Korea – South Korea relations.
