About Seongeun Lee
Seongeun Lee is a graduate student in the Tsinghua-SAIS Dual Degree Program concentrating in strategic studies. He is also interning at the Carnegie-Tsinghua Center in Beijing to learn how think tanks organize events, share information, and influence policy.
Seongeun received a bachelor’s degree with distinction in political science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. After college, he returned to South Korea and served as an army officer. While serving as an officer, he earned a master’s degree in future strategy from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST). Before joining the Tsinghua-SAIS Dual Degree Program, he interned at the National Assembly of Korea and Seoul National University.
Through these experiences he fostered his interest in the Korean unification issue and decided to study at SAIS and Tsinghua to learn the American and Chinese perspectives on East Asia regional security. After graduating from SAIS and Tsinghua, he would like to pursue a career contributing to unification policy and post-unification integration efforts. His research interests are regional security in East Asia, Korean unification policy, and conflict management.
