Zhang Kai graduated from the University of International Relations with a major in international economics and trade, and a minor in Spanish. During his undergraduate years, he became interested in the mutual relationship between international economics and politics, while also developing his own theoretical knowledge of economy. As the manager for an academic project, Zhang Kai analyzed the influences on China’s opening up strategy generated by the construction of the Silk Road Economic Belt. He also assisted in coordinating arrangements for the 2nd Summer Palace Forum, a conference focusing on international business relationships and innovative education.
Outside of academics, Zhang Kai has completed internships in a number of institutions, including: Haidian District People’s Government of Beijing, Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies, Renmin University of China (RDCY), and the Carnegie-Tsinghua Center for Global Policy. Additionally, as a volunteer, he also participated in international summits, such as the Global Governance and Open Economy: 2015 G20 Think Tank Summit, as well as the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation. In total, these experiences helped Zhang Kai further develop his comprehension of the interaction between international politics and economy, as well as China’s international economic cooperation.
Zhang Kai’s research interests focus on regional economic cooperation, global economic governance and China’s role and policy choices in these areas. Through his graduate studies in both China and the United States, he looks forward to exploring his global horizons and enhancing his cross-cultural communication capabilities, all while contributing to China’s future international economic cooperation.
