About Nathaniel

Nathaniel Sher graduated from Oberlin College in 2017 with high honors in History and a minor in Political Science. He was awarded the Comfort Starr Prize for his thesis on the 1973 oil embargo. While an undergraduate, Nathaniel interned with several non-profit organizations, including Breathe California, Taking on the Giant, Harvest Works, and the Borgen Project.

In 2019, Nathaniel received an MA in International Relations from the University of Chicago. His thesis focused on U.S. trade-remedy laws for imports from “non-market economies.” While pursuing his Master’s degree, Nathaniel worked as a staff writer for the Chicago Policy Review and as an associate editor for E-International Relations.

At Tsinghua, Nathaniel will specialize in quantitative political economy, multilateral trade organizations, and Sino-American relations. During his stay in Beijing, he is excited to improve his Mandarin skills and work as an intern with the Commercial Section of the U.S. Embassy.
